Laser hair removal: everything you need to know
Yes, there is a procedure with which it is possible to forget about hair for a long time (a long time, even): laser hair removal. In Aruna Spa we tell you what you should know to say yes to this treatment.
There may come a time in history when hair will be celebrated. Maybe... But for now it's not: hairless skin is still a trend. And not just for women.
There are those who shave and those who trim. There are those who dye to hide the hair and those who suffer with them. But to forget them, there is an option and we present it to you: laser hair removal.
What is laser hair removal?
The Mayo Clinic defines it as a medical procedure. What it seeks is, with the light emitted by a laser, to prevent the hair follicles (those small sacs under the epidermis where hair is produced) from functioning properly and, then, there is no more hair.
It is a highly safe procedure with a high rate of effectiveness that allows much better results than those that can be achieved with other methods that have been used throughout history.
This is not a new procedure. It has been around since the mid-1990s. However, technological advances have created more powerful lasers to remove hair without affecting the skin.
How effective is laser hair removal?
Very. With the lasers we have at Aruna Spa, for example, it is possible to remove 80 to 100 percent of body hair permanently.
Is there any preparation before laser hair removal?
No. Some people believe that you need to have a certain length of hair, but this is not necessary. However, it is not a bad idea to keep these recommendations in mind:
Don't tan before hair removal.
The golden skin by the sun's rays is very desirable, but it is still an altered skin that can alter the effects of the laser. So it is best to avoid it. The use of self-tanning creams or similar is also not recommended.
Do not overlap hair removal methods.
If you are considering laser hair removal, avoid other procedures that may alter the hair follicles, so that the laser action is more effective.
There is no need to wait until you have a specific hair length for laser hair removal, but it is also not a good idea to shave the area of skin you want.
Is laser hair removal painful?
Laser hair removal is an increasingly painless treatment. Today's lasers do not hurt the skin and only simple post-procedure care is necessary: moisturize the skin, use sunscreen, avoid saunas or swimming pools and showers with very hot water, for example.
